Responsible Gambling Awareness Week
October 18 – 24, 2010

For the fourth annual Responsible Gambling Awareness Week (RGAW), the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) and its gamingindustry and government partners remind patrons of casinos, racing entertainment centres, VLT venues and bingo halls that gambling is a form of entertainment and not a way to make money.

Through promotional materials and events, such as Responsible Gambling Information Centre (RGIC) open houses, RGAW focuses on educating gambling patrons about the realities of gambling, including the odds and randomness, the myths and facts and the actual cost of play.

The AGLC also has a year-round website, Set A Limit Alberta, that contains additional information on RGAW. The website offers helpful information such as the definitions of responsible and problem gambling and a section on the odds of gambling. There are also two self-tests that can help you see whether you know how to gamble responsibly and can help you understand and assess your own gambling behaviour.

As a gambling venue, you are invited and encouraged to join the AGLC and its partners in Responsible Gambling Awareness Week 2010, using the event to highlight for your gambling patrons the need to gamble responsibly and to help ensure gambling remains fun by setting and sticking to spending limits.
